My Pre-Mom Tribe: The Friends Who Survived My Transformation into a "Mom"

Remember those carefree days?  The days before I became a walking, talking, sleep-deprived, milk-stained, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!" machine?  The days when my biggest worry was whether my shoes matched my outfit, and a night out meant actually getting dressed?  Those were the days, my friends.

And you guys? You were the soundtrack to those glorious, pre-mom days.  We were unstoppable.  We could conquer anything:  a night out on the town, a karaoke session, a spontaneous road trip.  We were like a pack of wild, untamed, non-diaper-changing, non-sleep-deprived unicorns.

Then, bam!  Baby came along, and I went from "fashionista" to "fashion disaster" in about five seconds flat.  My world became a blur of spit-up, burp cloths, and "Is that a baby poop stain, or did I just wear that yesterday?"  My days were filled with the sounds of "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!" and my nights with the sweet symphony of a crying baby.

But you guys, you stuck around.  You didn't run for the hills when I started talking about poop explosions in graphic detail.  You didn't judge me when I showed up to brunch looking like I'd wrestled a toddler in a diaper.  You even (gasp!)  offered to watch the little monster while I tried to remember what a shower was.

You're like the ultimate test of friendship:  you survived the transition from "wild child" to "tired mom."  You've seen me at my most glamorous (okay, maybe not glamorous, but at least presentable) and at my most sleep-deprived and disheveled.  You've been there for the joy, the frustration, and the moments when I've seriously considered running away to join the circus.

So, to my pre-mom tribe, a huge, heartfelt, "Thank you!"  You're the best kind of friends:  the ones who stick around even when you're a walking, talking, sleep-deprived, milk-stained, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!" machine.  You're the ones who make me laugh, who understand my crazy mom life, and who remind me that even though I'm a mom now, I'm still me.

And for those of you still searching for your tribe, keep looking!  They're out there, waiting to share the journey with you, to laugh with you, to cry with you, and to be there for you, even when you're wearing that questionable "I haven't showered in days" look.

Because, my friends, true friends are like a good pair of comfy shoes:  they're always there for you, they make you feel good, and they can handle anything you throw at them.

And, seriously,  if you haven't met your tribe yet,  get out there and find them!  You'll need them.  And trust me, they'll need you too.  Because, let's face it, we all need a little bit of crazy in our lives.
